Walking in the Spirit
Walking in the Spirit and Being filled with the Holy Spirit is about being equipped for life and work and service to God.
Many people believe that ministry only happens inside a church preaching, leading worship, or teaching the Bible. But in God’s eyes, everything we do can be an act of worship and service to Him. There is no separation between “holy” and “secular” work. Whether we are pastors, business owners, office workers, or laborers, we can serve God in our daily tasks.
Examples
When God instructed Moses to build the Tabernacle, He chose Bezalel and Oholiab as skilled craftsmen. They were filled with God’s Spirit to design and create the Ark of the Covenant, the furniture, and the decorations for the Tabernacle. Their work was not preaching, but it was still holy because it was done for God’s glory.
Joseph (Genesis 39-50)
Joseph was not a priest, but a government leader in Egypt. He managed resources and saved many people during a famine. His work was not in a church, but it was still part of God’s plan.
Daniel (Daniel 1-6)
Daniel served as a government official in a pagan kingdom, yet he remained faithful to God. His administrative work was also part of God’s mission.
Paul (Acts 18:3)
While spreading the gospel, Paul worked as a tentmaker. He did not see this as separate from his ministry it was all part of serving God.
God did not just anoint prophets and priests He anointed artisans, leaders, and workers. The same Spirit that filled Bezalel for craftsmanship fills us today in our work. Whether you are managing a business, creating art, leading a team, or working in customer service, you are in ministry. God is just as present in a marketplace as He is in a church.
Many people associate being filled with the Holy Spirit with outward emotional expressions such as weeping, shaking, or falling under God’s power. While these experiences can be genuine and powerful encounters with God, the concept of being filled with the Holy Spirit is much deeper. In the Bible, being filled with the Spirit is not just about emotions; it is about empowerment, wisdom, transformation, and service.
The Holy Spirit Fills People for a Purpose. The Bible shows that when God fills someone with His Spirit, it is often to equip them for a specific task, not just for an emotional experience.
Bieng filled with the Holy Spirit is not only about physical reactions, speaking in tongues, or intense emotions. While these can be signs, the Bible emphasizes other key evidences
Wisdom and Understanding (Exodus 31:3) – The Spirit empowers people to excel in their work, like Bezalel.
Boldness to Preach and Witness (Acts 4:31) – The disciples were filled with the Spirit and boldly proclaimed the gospel.
Character and the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) – Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are signs of the Spirit’s presence.
Spiritual Gifts for Service (1 Corinthians 12:7-11) – Gifts like prophecy, wisdom, faith, and healing are given for the good of others.
There is nothing wrong with emotional responses to God’s presence many in the Bible wept, trembled, or fell down before Him. But being filled with the Spirit is not about what happens in a moment of worship it is about how we live, work, and serve daily.
It’s good to have powerful worship encounters, but true Spirit-filled living is seen in how we work, serve, and love others. That’s the real evidence of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives.
